| We're confident this gig
never took place. Joy Division aren't listed on the
flyer and we've found no solid evidence the gig
actually happened. They did however play on 13th July that year and the
dates seem to have been transposed.
But why?
Touching From a Distance by Deborah Curtis lists
gigs at the Factory (Russell Club) on both 13 June
and 13 July 1979 whereas Mark Johnson, who followed
the band round while writing An Ideal For Living and
is a go-to primary source, only lists the July 13
concert.
We believe the confusion began with Hawkeye’s
bootleg LP The
Russell Club - June 13 1979 LP which actually
features the July performance. But why did they get
it wrong? Our best guess is they got their hands on
a mislabelled cassette.
